COURSE OVERVIEW
This advanced training is designed for behavioral health professionals working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Drawing on research, field experience, and practical tools, this course bridges the gap between courtroom proceedings and case management practice. Participants will explore the impact of incarceration, understand legal dynamics, and apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive methods to serve justice-involved populations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Define justice-involvement and its various pathways (arrest, court, incarceration, probation, parole).
2. Understand the behavioral, psychological, and systemic impact of justice involvement on clients.
3. Apply trauma-informed care principles to clients with legal histories.
4. Translate courtroom outcomes (charges, pleas, convictions) into clinical considerations and service planning.
5. Navigate interdisciplinary collaboration with probation officers, attorneys, and courts.
6. Identify ethical challenges and responsibilities when serving mandated clients.
7. Develop practical interventions that support recovery, reduce recidivism, and promote client autonomy.
