Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP)

SAIOP provides a structured level of substance-use treatment for adults who need more support than weekly counseling but can safely remain in the community. The program combines group treatment, individual support and coordinated recovery planning.

How This Service Can Help

Care is individualized. Your assessment and treatment plan determine the goals, frequency and services that are appropriate for you.

Structured Groups

Recovery education, relapse prevention, coping skills, triggers, relationships and practical problem solving.

Individual & Family Work

Individual counseling and family involvement are included when clinically indicated and authorized.

Care Coordination

Connection with medical, psychiatric, peer, housing, employment and other recovery resources as needed.

SAIOP May Be Appropriate For

  • Adults with a primary substance-use disorder needing intensive outpatient structure
  • People stepping down from a higher level of care
  • Individuals experiencing repeated relapse or difficulty maintaining recovery with weekly services
  • People with stable housing and medical needs that can be managed safely in the community

Program Expectations

  • Participation is typically at least nine hours each week across three or more days
  • Regular attendance, active participation and progress review are required
  • The treatment plan may include individual, group and family services
  • Continued stay depends on clinical need, progress, safety and authorization

Schedule & Delivery

TSGBH generally organizes SAIOP as three program days per week, approximately three hours per day. Exact days, format and location depend on program schedule, payer rules and clinical needs.

Eligibility, Coverage & Scheduling

Admission requires a qualifying assessment, diagnosis, ASAM-based level-of-care recommendation and any required authorization. People needing withdrawal management, residential or inpatient care will be referred to a safer level of treatment.
